FIGURATIVE SCULPTURES

“ELYSIUM”

I loved this piece because it was sculpted from initial sketches of my model curled up sleeping. She fell asleep in the pose wrapped up in her own body. A stillness, and introspection, calm and at peace. She is unconcerned with anything else she is contained, safely within her own sphere.

The colour pallet leans towards that of a water nymph. She is in perfect harmony with her surroundings. I always imagined her with her hair dipped in water. My first half life size figure, so a pivotal piece in my cannon of work.

“UNTAMED”

Unnamed Woman is a study of strength in clay. Often women are sculpted as passive muses. This figure emulated strength and confidence. As a female artist I’m really interested in showing women as the authors of the their own destiny, beautiful powerful and unconcerned with the viewers glance.

The sculpture shows the natural lines and volume in raw form, my sculpting marks are left exposed, emphasising and revealing the natural beauty and rhythms of the female body.

‘Climbing the Walls’

Inspired by the twisted, stretched contortions I pull my body into when I am suffering a bad episode of HEDS (Hyper mobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) a genetic connective tissue condition that affects my joints. This series of wall mounted panels explores my need to find a position that releases the pain, for me it is all about the pleasure that comes afterwards . There is tension in it yes, but there is peace too. I would love to create this piece on a much larger scale.
