BENEATH THE WAVES

A collection of limited edition bronzes inspired by my love of open water swimming and wild waters.

“Adrift”

Captures that brief moment when you surrender your body to the power of the elements. Floating on the waves, leaning into the currents and knowing you are safe there.

I love this piece for her solitary surrender to the powerful calling of the waves.

20 x 10 x 41cms (8 x 4 x 16")

“Embrace”

At first the figures are hardly distinguishable and then you realise that they are so tightly wrapped up in each other they have become an impenetrable embrace.  Even through turbulent times and changing tides when your world is turned upside-down hold on tight.

12 x 10 x 45cms (5 x 4 x 17.5")

“Entangled”

Inspired by the pull of the undertow. In life at time we slip and are caught unexpectedly by the currents of things we can’t control. That when we need our love to catch us hold us and bring us back home. Entangled is about the reach for each other and the return to the safety of your lovers arms.

23 x 10 x 46cms (9 x 4 x 18")

“Entwined”

This is the first in the series, the one that inspired all the others. Having seen the St Ives mermaid Laura Evans underwater photography I asked if I could use her as reference to sculpt from and it all followed from there. The particular image is one of her anther friend under water in a tight intimate embrace.

Two women captured in the currents and leaving the world behind.

16 x 10 x 45cms (6.5 x 4 x 17.5")

“Fallen”

This piece is one of my favourites. It captures the fall into water and the water currents whip her hair as if to soften the fall.

It speaks of the sureness of surrendering to things more powerful than your own desires. It speaks of trusting the unknown, a leap of faith into in known waters. I love its vulnerability and its fluidity of movement and the ocean green patina.

15 x 15 x 54cms (6 x 6 x 21")

“Into the Waves”

This piece depicts a figure heading deep into the waters , diving down beneath the waves, her colour is that of a stormy sky, so often whilst storms rage above the quite stillness of the waters below feels like an embrace.

12 x 10 x 45cms (5 x 4 x 17.5")
